PHAILIN and Flood Odisha 2013 

On October 12, 2013, Cyclone Phailin battered the coast of India, making landfall near Gopalpur in Odis

ha State. With high wind speeds and heavy rains, the storm blew off roofs, uprooted trees, flooded homes, and downed power lines. With thi

s storm, however, the people of India were not caught unaware. Official report states : 1.23 Cr population affected with a life toll of 43 individuals. 8117 villages in 176 Blocks and 49 Urban Local Bodies of 18 Districts have been affected by this storm compounded with flood. This has damaged nearly 4.19 Lakhs houses, destroying 6.68 Lakhs hacters crops.

School of Disaster Management Centurion University with its team of trained professionals in Disaster Management are engaged with State Govt., Inter Agency Group Odisha and District Administration Ganjam and providing possible human resource support.
